My data is not working

If your eSIM is installed but data is not working, follow these steps in order.

1. Check you're at your destination

eSIMs activate at the travel destination, not at home. Make sure you have arrived in the country your plan covers.

2. Check the eSIM line is turned on

If the line is off, the Data Roaming toggle in step 3 does not appear at all. This is the most common reason people cannot find it.

  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > tap your Guac eSIM > "Turn On This Line" must be on.
  • Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > select your Guac eSIM > turn the line on.

3. Turn on Data Roaming

  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > your eSIM plan > turn on Data Roaming.
  • Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > your eSIM > turn on Data Roaming.

Some plans no longer need Data Roaming. If the line already shows carrier signal, turn Wi-Fi off and try loading a page before changing anything.

4. Set the eSIM as your data line

Make sure your phone is using the travel eSIM for data, not your home SIM.

  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data > select your travel plan.
  • Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > set your eSIM as the data SIM.

5. Restart your phone

A simple restart often resolves connection issues.

6. Toggle Airplane Mode

Turn Airplane Mode on, wait 10 seconds, then turn it off. This forces your phone to reconnect to the network.

7. Check the APN

The APN differs by plan, so use the value shown for your eSIM in the Guac app rather than a generic one.

  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > your eSIM > Cellular Data Network.
  • Android: Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > your eSIM > Access Point Names.

This is often the fix when the earlier steps have not worked. If you cannot find the value for your plan, contact support and we will read it back to you.
